By growing your superannuation you can take steps to make a positive difference to your…
What Kind Of A Saver Are You?
You will have to take time to understand and plan for your Super so that you can actually reap the benefits when you retire. This is easier said than done.
A study recently done showed that 70% of Australians think that they are doing reasonably well with their Super and they are confident that they will be able to live off this investment. But some digging into this has revealed that this is far from the case. It seems that only 30% of Australians are able to actually live of their Super because – surprise, surprise – it runs out pretty fast!
Apart from the fact that your Super might not be as inexhaustible as you might think, it seems there is another reason why people might not be investing in their Super as well as they think they are.
Research done recently shows that there seems to be a connection between the kind of person you are and how much you save.
What kind of person are you?
There are some people who learn from the negative events in their life. If you are this kind of person, you will focus on what happened in the past, rather than what is coming up in the future. You may be wary of the mistakes that you or others around you have made and would be careful to not repeat those mistakes. That might not be a completely bad thing because the fear of mistakes from the past could push you to invest better for the future.

“]You will also find that there are people who live in the moment. Though it might seem like these kind of people would be poor planners, it turns out that that is not the case at all. People who live in the moment and like to enjoy life will also save to maintain their lifestyle.
Then there are those who are generally just good planners because they are focused on the future. Planning for everything, including savings and Super, comes naturally to them.
On the other hand some people, unfortunately are considered naturally poor planners. These are the kind of who are so positive about the future that they do not see a need to save. The other kind of savers are those who are so negative about the future that they, too, belief that is unnecessary to plan since eventually things are outside of our control.
Take some time to think about the kind of person you are and see if that might be a reason you are having trouble saving. The good news is that it is possible to change how you perceive the past and future and what you think about savings. Once you are sure that you do want to save, Super is definitely something to plan for.
